California lakes begin boat inspections for invasive mussels

Boat inspections for invasive quagga and zebra mussels are now in effect at some lakes in California. The mussels that have wreaked havoc in the Great Lakes have been spread west over the past five years through waterways and vessels. Officials at Lake Nacimiento and Lake San Antonio near Paso Robles, Calif. will not allow boats that have been in infested lakes in the previous 10 days to enter the lakes. Boats should be cleaned, dried and drained after each launch.
