Product Spotlight: CB-1500 Coastal Data Buoy

The NexSens CB-1500 Data Buoy is a multi-purpose environmental data buoy for off-shore monitoring in both the Great Lakes and coastal water applications.

Designed for flexibility and customization for many surface monitoring applications, the CB-1500 is equipped with a 60” deep battery and instrument well, three sensor pass-through ports, and a removable tower with solar panel mounts. It can be configured with a wide range of sensors for monitoring weather, air and water quality, waves, and currents.

When combined with a NexSens submersible data logger (SDL), the need for tedious and unreliable wiring is eliminated, as the SDL has easy to use quick-pluggable sensor connections. All connections are rated for deep submersible applications.

The data logger and sensors are powered by the buoy’s internal power supply consisting of up to four 12 VDC 55 A-HR Optima batteries. They conveniently mount to a battery harness and are deployed within the CB-1500 battery well. Foam inserts are placed around the batteries to absorb shock and reduce space, and a vent tube allows air movement from within the well.

The internal batteries can be continuously charged by three solar panels with built-in regulators. Each panel is placed in a flat, vertical position around the CB-1500 buoy tower, allowing for solar charging at any angle while preventing build-up of snow or debris.

The buoy’s hull is constructed of cross-linked polyethylene foam and coated with indestructible polyurea. All hardware, battery and instrument well, tower, and mooring/lifting eyes are made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel. Reaching a weight of 600 lbs fully equipped with 1500 lb maximum buoyancy, the rugged CB-1500 is optimal for even the harshest monitoring environments.
